2002年是南京大学校庆100周年，也是南大天文系系庆50周年。专刊就是当时庆祝建系50年制作的，介绍了系内各个研究方向及代表学者的基本情况。虽然由于近2年人事变更及科研的进展，有些资料已不尽准确，但它仍不失为一份不错的南大天文系介绍，值得有兴趣学习天文的朋友一看。
